Fabrice Flückiger, PhD

Historian, editor, book lover, crocodile friend and whisky enthusiast

About

I am currently head editor at Schwabe Verlag in Basel, where I am in charge of History and German Medieval Literature since 2022.

After my studies in Geneva and Paris, I worked as a research and teaching assistant at the University of Neuchâtel where I obtained my PhD in 2016. After working there as a postdoctoral fellow until 2019, I went to Munich as a visiting scholar at the Ludwig-Maximilian-Universität for two years. I also teached at the universities of Paris Cité, Luzern and Bern.

My ongoing research as an associate member of the Institute of History at the University of Bern focuses on representations of Good Governement in Swiss and German cities in the 16th century. I also worked on the political aspects of religious disputations in the Old Swiss Confederacy and on Wilhem Gumppenberg's "Atlas Marianus" as an example of Jesuite scientific practices.

I love books in all forms, I have a soft spot for crocodiles and I am always ready to enjoy a fine whisky in good company.
